Janna Audey: Music With A Mission

- The Message

When you come to a live show, it's quite clear that the music has a message, and my hope and pure intention is to perform with purpose. :)

As a solo artist, it's all about intimacy, sharing the gift of life through each song's story, and connecting the audience to the music, which ultimately connects us to one another (in the room), and that central part within ourselves.  How does this connection reveal itself?  Through laughter, applause/gratitude, silence, people knitting in big comfy couches or reading a book, others working on that term paper or work project, and children smiling and dancing.  Joy is exchanged, and it is a gift to be a vehicle for this positive energy.  I am so grateful!

When I am with the band, I would have to say one of my main intentions is to keep melodic rock music alive.  We all grew up listening to 70s and 80s rock...during a time when bands/artists had mutli-album contracts over many years (yes, albums!) to develop their potential, and we, the listeners, all benefited.  The lyrics, the level of mastery they were able to attain because of the time they were given.  My goodness...what a blessing it was to learn from these greats!  The more people I meet at our shows, the more I realize there is a hunger for this type of music, still...

So what can I, we, do about this?  Continue to develop as an artist, and keep the craft and art of singing alive, expressing the voice, not just through technique, but as it stems from the soul.  And the band?  When we perform as a unit we allow each other to continue to develop our own mastery, individually and collectively, and keep our creative energy, our love of music, alive.  What we feed, remains, right?  If we stop, then that energy is not being put out there.  So performing live and writing/recording our own music are ways to keep the passion ignited, to share love, and deliver that to you, the audience, the listener.  It's all about inspiration, and that goes both ways...

I thank you, from my heart and soul, for continuing to support our music.  Each year, each gig, each of you...along with my will and self-discipline and the gifts I have been blessed with...it all works as one.  Do you see how we work together to keep it alive? :)

- The Mission

Which leads me to the mission.  As I stand on the road now looking ahead at where I need to be directing this energy, and all of the years that have led to this moment, I now understand how my yoga and music paths are becoming one.  I have been blessed with a gift and a talent, and years of investing time and practice have brought me to this stage...and this stage is about bridging music to service, service to music.  The gigs I perform at must somehow connect to my value system-- providing a sense of community, human connection, joy, soul, FUN, and peace.  And so, over Memorial Day weekend the plan crystallized.  12 Months, 12 Charities.  Bridging Music and Service

Each month I will put the spotlight on a charity or fundraiser event, and either use my recorded material or live shows as the vehicles to generate funds (% of sales), or, if it's a slim month (I'm an indie artist, after all), I will somehow donate time or energy to the event or charity.  The intent behind this is to somehow remind us all that every little bit counts...no amount of time or money is too small.  Charity events are all about the "village" mentality...pooling together resources.  And when we reach outside of ourselves, simply put, we feel better.

My hope is that the songs I write, which are mostly autobiographical, connect us through the journey of life, and that you, the listener, can relax your mind and open your heart so that, ultimately, you can make sense of your precious life.  What do some of the fans say about the music?  "It's like musical yoga!" "Your voice soothes and relaxes me, and I need that."  "I just want to stay here and bathe in the comfort."  "Your voice needs to be heard by more people!"

Life is beautiful!
