Ready to Serve

I entered the New Year with goals in my left pocket, and a new mission in my right. One I had never formally put down on paper. Being a singer/songwriter, teaching yoga-- they are very similar. Each expression, whether singing a solo/acoustic song, rockin' out with the band, or guiding students on their yoga journey, well, fills me up; returns joy to my heart, peace to my mind, and strength to my soul. And after 20 years of doing this music thing, I also witness the positive effect it has on those in the audience, from children to retirees. It binds, and it connects. In many ways, the music/performances are much like a yoga class, without the deep stetching! :)

I entered 2010 with direction, to perform one community service show or one free community yoga class per month. To give back-- to share-- the power of music, and the healing components of yoga. I wrote this idea in my journal at the end of December, and by New Year's Eve the first opportunity came my way. And in January, the second opportunity of service came my way through one of my yoga students.

I serve other musicians, too-- perhaps sharing gigs with other like-minded artists, and even opening space at a show for a budding star on the rise. Of course, I am only one person, so I am mindful about my choices, what I can do to support without losing focus of my mission, the actual work, gigs, yoga classes, etc. It's an intuitive process, always has been, and I am happy to report that, so far, is working!

Take a moment to read the Jailhouse Rock blog entry from March, and then SAVE THE DATE, as we are getting ready to support Shelterbox.org on May 22 at the Clarendon Grill.

I hope to see you at a show soon. And if you have a cause that you believe my services would enhance, drop me a line. Until then...

~Janna
